12 December 2007A total of 9 Hanse Yachts have entered and completed this years Atlantic Rally for Cruisers.
The first Hanses home in 16 days were 'Anteater Blues' and 'Swagman', which are both 461's (the same naval architecture as the new 470e). Phil and Robbie Hearse ended second in class and John Allison arrived 8 hours before them in 'Swagman'.
The smallest Hanse in the fleet was 'Gertha IV' skippered by Simon Ridley in 17 days.
The most remarkable achievment was by Thomas Pollehne in 'Taima', which is a Hanse 630e. After having to return to Gran Canaria he ended up leaving 6 days after the rest of the fleet and still arrived in 118th place, which actually took just over 12 days, with the course record just under 12 days.
A special mention must go to Keith White who is currently in the middle of his singlehanded Atlantic Challenge and is getting along very well with his Hanse 400 'Rosiley' looking after him.
It is always good to see more evidence to support the Hanse pedigree of building fast, safe cruising yachts.
A final testament is a Hanse 540e, which arrived in 17 days without using a spinnaker.
